A quiz from a magazine. A bored friend. His notepad, his dice, and altogether too much time until the rest of your friends arrive:

A difficult era approaches for Valdara, the city-state you govern on the coastal frontier. Fortunately, your advisors and ministers will not permit the destruction of your city. They have considered every possible calamity: even now, with the first crisis bearing down on you, they prepare two avenues by which the emergency might be circumvented.

Will you ensure a great future for your people, or will you die in ignominy? Make your choice now, for The Exigent Seasons are upon you.

This interactive fiction game was written in Inform 7 and compiled in the Glulx story format. It is playable on the web by clicking "Run game" followed by "Play In-Browser"; if you have a Glulx interpreter, you can also download the game using the "Story File" link.

Think this is the first time I've stumbled across an IF game on Itch, bravo!

Autonomous and Suzerain don't seem to be political realities that can co-exist in the same polity, but that's semantic quibbling.

That's a fair point! Who can say whether historians may have let the spirit of nationalism introduce some contradictory elements into their portrayal of the national character? Without direct access to more of Valdaran history's primary sources, all I can do is speculate. Thanks for playing!
